South Peace Community Resources originated in Dawson Creek in 1974. Over the past 48 years we have expanded from providing services to children and youth into services for elders, women experiencing gender-based violence, assistance with childcare, children with additional needs, youth and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, legal assistance, family counselling, victims of crime and people struggling with homelessness.
Since 2002, our services for women needing safe shelter from violence have grown in this vibrant community with local employees and a close working relationship with the First Nations of this land. We continue to provide safe shelter services along with services to children and counselling. Chetwynd is a close-knit active community always ready to step up and support those in need, or speak out about change that is needed.
SPCRS has worked closely with the Fort St John service agencies in several capacities since 1990. Currently SPCRS works cooperatively with the growing community in providing support for parents of preschool children while offering education and support for the community’s childcare providers.
SPCRS was asked to extend the services for women experiencing violence, victims of crime and services to children into Tumbler Ridge in 2004. This was done with the hope of making services more accessible to this rural community. We are pleased to see our services in this picturesque village expand and grow with the ever-changing population of this community.
